Jean-Marie Londeix was a French saxophonist born on September 20, 1932 in Libourne, France. He was a key figure in the world of classical saxophone and was known for his significant contributions to saxophone pedagogy and literature. Londeix studied with Marcel Mule at the Paris Conservatoire, where he graduated with highest honors.
During his career, he premiered over 250 compositions written especially for him and influenced an entire generation of saxophonists. He also published several teaching works that are still considered standard today. As one of the most important promoters of the classical saxophone, Londeix was an honorary member of ArDeSa since its foundation in 1981. He died on March 3, 2025.
His influence lives on in the many musicians who were inspired by him.
